New year, new faces and big plans for Money Sense

FacebookLinkedInTwitterNew school year, new organization name and new faces – like me! Hi, I’m Rashidah Butler-Jackson, the Money Sense program manager for SecureFutures. Many educators and administrators know Money Sense, but you may be less familiar with me and the name “SecureFutures”. So, about all that …

SecureFutures is the new name for Make A Difference – Wisconsin. We’ve empowered more than 62,000 teens since 2006, partnering with more than 200 schools and community sites in Milwaukee, across Wisconsin and into Chicago. As we kept growing, it was time to go with a name that more clearly shared our mission and vision in empowering teens with financial capability and confidence. (You can read more about our plan here.)

As for me, I’m new to SecureFutures, but I’m no stranger to Milwaukee or the world of education. I’m a proud alum of Rufus King (go Generals!) and I earned my undergraduate and graduate degrees from UW-Milwaukee. I taught at YES Prep Public Schools in Houston, Texas. We may also have met through one of my many roles at Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee.

I am so excited for this coming school year. I’m looking to build on the partnerships from last year – see a full list at the bottom of this blog – so that we can all work toward improving the lives of young people in our community. That is a goal I know we can all get behind, no matter the new titles or names.

Let me know if you’re interested in hearing more about our financial education programs or to see how we can schedule sessions with your teenagers. Thank you!
