An update on volunteering in 2021-2022
As we enter the 2021-2022 school year, we look forward to reestablishing relationships with our educational partners and reengaging our volunteers. We expect volunteer opportunities to be available in virtual, in-person and hybrid formats and we will do our best to ensure that our students, educators, and volunteers are as safe as possible. Each of our partners have their own COVID-19 safety protocols and we will abide by them according to location. We will request information from each of our partners about their protocols and include that information in the description of the volunteer opportunities, so that our volunteers are fully informed about what is expected and required.
Flexibility will be key to our success this year. Many schools and organizations have protocols in place to determine when they will transition from in-person to virtual learning or require groups of students to quarantine (for example: when a certain percentage of students and staff test positive for COVID-19). When these transitions take place, we will ask for your cooperation in adjusting programming, as necessary. Programs may need to be cancelled or rescheduled. Some may continue on their regular schedule, but switch between in-person and virtual. We expect that there will be ups and downs as our partners begin to navigate this year and we ask for your patience and understanding while we all work together to continue to serve our students.
We know that you all are excited to get back to volunteering and having impactful interactions with the teens in our community and we are, too! We appreciate that you will be joining us in making this school year as successful as possible for everyone.

News from Milwaukee Public Schools
If you have a volunteer application on file with MPS, you would have recently received an email from Sophia Smith, MPS’s Volunteer Services Associate (search your inbox for SPCS Admin or VolunteerMail@volgistics.com). Please review that email and complete the requested actions by September 24th. Doing so will keep you active in the MPS database and prevent you from having to re-submit an application to them. If you miss the deadline, that is okay! You will just have to complete an MPS application and background check before the next time that you volunteer in an MPS school.
If you are interested in volunteering at one of the MPS schools, but haven’t completed an MPS volunteer application, click here to get started. It is a great idea for all Milwaukee-area volunteers to submit an application so that you are pre-approved and don’t have to take any additional actions if you decide to volunteer at MPS later in the year.
At this time, MPS buildings are open to the public, but schools and teachers may make their own determinations about whether to allow in-person volunteering. Masks and social distancing will be required at all times.
Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities
We are starting to hear back from teachers who are interested in volunteer-led Money Sense and Money Path programs! At this time, we have a few more details and logistics to work out, but we will be in touch as soon as we are ready to match those opportunities to volunteers. Our fall Money Coach sites have been set and there is still a chance to get involved! Contact Kiana Ayala at kiana@securefutures.org to learn more. Trainings will take place virtually on Saturday, 9/11, and Saturday, 9/18. Programs will start in early October and run through December. Money Coach will be offered at the following schools and organizations:
