Preparing for a job interview
October 30, 2025

Walking into an interview prepared shows confidence and initiative. But beyond reviewing the job description, researching the company and position can give you a competitive edge. Here are some steps to take before your next interview.
1. Research the role and the company
Check out the company website, read about their mission, values, and job positions. Understanding their culture and the role can help you tailor your responses
2. Check employee reviews & insights
Sites like Glassdoor, LinkedIn, and Indeed can give you an inside look at company culture, salary expectations, and employee experiences.
3. Practice your answer
Be ready to answer common interview questions. A quick search can give you an idea of what you could be asked. Say your answers out loud so they sound natural.
4. Be prepared and dress for success
Bring 3-4 copies of your resume to the in-person interview, and your attire should be formal or business casual.
5. Follow up afterward
Send a thank-you email within 24 hours of your interview, expressing your appreciation.
Remember, interviews aren’t only for the organization. It’s a two-way street! The organization is seeing if you are a good fit for them, and you are seeing if the organization is a good fit for you.
After the interviewer asks you questions, you should have a few questions queued up, especially around pay and benefits. Although talking about salary and benefits can feel intimidating, it’s a crucial part of the conversation. After all, we are talking about the money you’ll be earning! Here are some questions you can ask during your next interview.
- If I were to start tomorrow, what tasks and responsibilities would I have to fulfill?
- What are the most important skills or qualities you’re looking for in the person who fills this role?
- Can you tell me a bit about the team I’d be joining?
- Can you share the salary range for this position?
- How would you describe the company’s work culture?
- How does the organization approach salary growth and performance-based raises?
- What’s included in your benefits package?
- What opportunities are there for professional development and growth?
- What’s the next step in the interview process?
- Based on my interview today, what immediate feedback could you give me on my resume or my soft skills?
