A new year, a meaningful milestone
As we begin the new year, I find myself feeling especially grateful. Grateful for the educators who open their classrooms to conversations about money. Grateful for the volunteers who show up, semester after semester, to mentor and guide teens. Grateful for the donors and partners who believe, deeply, that financial education is not a luxury, but a necessity.
Because of you, SecureFutures is entering its 20th year of service.
Since 2006, we’ve had the privilege of serving more than 145,000 teens, helping them build the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to navigate their financial futures. That number represents far more than reach; it represents possibility. It represents students who asked thoughtful questions, mentors who shared real-life lessons, and communities that came together to invest in the next generation.
Celebrating 20 years
Throughout this milestone year, we’ll reflect on where we’ve been, celebrate how far we’ve come, and look ahead to what’s possible. One of the ways we’ll do this is through “20 stories for 20 years,” a new series you’ll see rolled out on a dedicated anniversary webpage, in social posts, and via email.
These stories will highlight the people, moments, and milestones that shaped SecureFutures, from early beginnings to recent impact, and they’ll remind us that progress is always powered by people. I hope you’ll follow along, reflect with us, and maybe even see yourself somewhere in these stories.
All of this will culminate in a celebratory community event this August, where we’ll gather to honor the past and share our excitement for the future. More to come on that!
As we mark this milestone, our anniversary celebration will unfold in four phases:
1. Honoring our legacy
We’ll look back at the early days of SecureFutures, why this work began started and the vision that set us in motion.
2. Celebrating our impact
From classrooms to communities, we’ll highlight the real and lasting difference financial education and mentorship make in the lives of teens.
3. Community and partnership
This work has never happened in isolation. This phase will celebrate the educators, volunteers, donors, and partners who make this mission possible.
4. Looking to the future
Finally, we’ll turn our attention forward, toward the next generation of teens and the evolving ways we can support them.
Why this moment matters
Reaching 20 years is a big deal, but what matters most is why we continue. Teens are still navigating complex financial systems, still facing unequal access to financial education, and still hungry for guidance they can trust. Our commitment remains the same: to meet them where they are and equip them with tools for lifelong financial well-being.
This milestone belongs to everyone who has been part of this journey. If you’ve volunteered, donated, partnered with us, shared the work, or cheered us on, you helped build this.
As we move through the year, I invite you to celebrate with us. If you haven’t already, subscribe to our newsletter to stay in the know. Watch and read the stories, share them, and most of all, continue being part of a community that believes every teen deserves the chance to be financially empowered.
With gratitude and optimism for what’s ahead,
